    Description

    Here's a Chinese melon jar decorated with cabbage, bok choy, butterflies, and other insects. The marking on the bottom corresponds to the Tongzhi period 1862-1873. The jar measures approximately 8.5 inches tall (10 with base) and 8 inches in diameter. The bottom of the jar is 4.75 inches and the lid is 3.75 inches in diameter. This is from the estate of long-time Bay Area resident who inherited many old and beautiful things from her family.
    CONDITION
    No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. The green paint has tiny raised dots, perhaps bubbles, throughout. These cannot be seen unless you hold the item up close. Use the zoom feature to look at the photo of the lid and you might see it. The other colors are unblemished. The surface soil is age appropriate.
