A super rare Mory Jazzmaster!
The "Mory" of the brand was one Moridaira Toshio who went on to found the successful Morris guitar company which is still going strong. Prior to Morris, between 1965 and 1967 he manufactured Jazzmaster-like guitars in a small factory - rumored to be behind his house - in Tokyo. These guitars are superior builds to most of what the Japanese guitar industry was churning out at the height of the eleki and group sounds boom. They were made by hand and feature alder bodies where other brands were using plywoods or mahogany with veneer tops.
This particular example features a toggle pickup selector and the 'door hinge' tremolo tailpiece, which is sadly missing the large flat head screw but is still functional without it. The original tremolo arm is also included. Apart from the bridge posts, which are replacements, the pickups, pots, very thick pickguard and hardware all appear to be original and are fully functional. The bridge is fairly useless if you want to bend notes but as this guitar pre-dates blues rock by two or three years I suppose that wasn't a consideration. There are dings and scratches throughout and a bit of corrosion on the tuning pegs and the tremolo roller bar but cosmetically this guitar is actually pretty clean all things considered. Sadly the Mory logo has worn off. You can just about make out a ghost impression with the naked eye but it's close to impossible to capture in photographs.
The maple neck is a comfortable c shape that gets progressively thicker and wider towards towards the higher frets, where it meets a lightweight four-piece alder body. Plugged in, the guitar has its own sound, darker and not as airy as its Fender counterpart, especially in the neck position.
An old hardcase is included that is not original. Other ephemera includes a vintage strap, vintage strings and a several NOS Japanese picks in wild colors.
All in all a rare, unique player from a bygone era!
