"Chateau Hong Kong" Vintage 1997 Handover Wine Bottle"A Liberal Red"
This wine bottle was made to commemorate the 1997 handover of Hong Kong by the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China. The label says it was "Produced and Bottled in France for Export" and "Proudly Relabelled in Hong Kong". The bottle is empty (there is no cork or cap on it).
The label on the back has the following clever and playful wording (see last picture):
Chateau Hong Kong
Vinage 1997
Q: "What will happen after 1997?"
A: "I'll just uncork another bottle!"
If corked now, 1997 promises the drinker once in a lifetime experience, reminiscent of a rich fragrant Port. To enjoy at The Peak of condition, this unrestrained Red should be left in the dark until 30th June, 1997. By then it should be full of unprecedented surprises and ideal for a Party. This Rich nosy wine is made from the liberal grapes of one country but matured under two systems. The bouquet of this fruity Chateau Hong Kong 1997 is full of English nuts with a faint hint of mandarin.
Notes: "Fragrant Port" is a pun on the meaning of Hong Kong (fragrant harbor). "Red" and "Party" refer to the Chinese Communist Party. "Two Systems" refers to China's promise to have 'one country, two systems' after the handover.
